One thing that must be realized in all these essays is the importance of systamatic Orthodox thought. I could even be justly accused of neglecting the topic of transsexualism. This may seem odd, especially considering that the main purpose of this page is to explore transsexualism in eastern Christian thought. Yet that is the main topic. It is transsexualism in eastern Christian thought, not eastern Christian thought in transsexualism. With this being the case, it must be understood that all of my thoughts, therefore, revolve around the main tennet of Orthodoxy. That is "how does a Christian become like God?" To discover this, one must therefore explore who Jesus is.
I will admit that most of my philosophy is clothed in hesychism. This is in part due to the fat that this was my first true exposure to Orthodox theology. I also believe that hesychasm is a more authentic form of Christianity that stresses the middle road. That is: a healthy dose of dogma with a compassionate and giving Christian attitude. Tus, my background mostly contains the idea that the individual Christian can know God mystically, familiarly, and literally through prayer and humility. Once one knows God, then I believe you can "know thyself." Therefore, I believe that in order for a transsexual to know herself, she must first know God.
However, because the main tennets of Christianity are forgiveness and humilty, I find it quite strange that transsexuals are persecuted by mainstream Christianity. After examining much information and many reviews (websites listing such information are listed here), I find the idea that Scripture condemns it unacceptable. However, it must be remembered that this is a problem of institutional Christianity and not Christianity itself.
Christianity, especially Orthodox Christianty is rich in different traditions. Therefore, let us add our unique and valid beliefs to the tapestry of Christian theology and the Eastern framework.
