Why It is neccesary to Transition
By now you have probably picked up the gist of Eastern Christian thought. That is that Christ did not become incarnate merely to redeem a sinful and guilty man. No, he became man so something even greater may occur. That man may become united to God! Our relationship with the Divine will transform our entire self. In a marriage, two lovers (hopefully) love and change each other for the better. Likewise, in our relationship to God we change and become closer to God. Christ is not the unmovable mover.
Yet, if we wish to be united to God then we must try to love God. And in what working relationship contains two deceitful people? To present lies to your lover would be presenting a false self. If we do this with God, then we cannot be united with him because he will not know us. (Mat. 25:10-12) " And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not." Christ, of course, is honest with us because God is truth. (John 14:6). If God failed to be truth, then he would fail to be God. Therefore, I, myself, have the obligation to be truthful with God. Yes my body was born with male parts. However, this is not who I am. I know that I have a female soul. However, due to a fallen world my body does not agree with my soul. Am I, therefore, expected to force my soul to agree with a corrupt body? The very idea is ludicrous. It would be like a child trying to hammer a square peg into a round hope. It does not fit and to try to force it to fit would destroy them both. I am, therefore, not going to lie to God and tell Him that I am something that He knows is false.
Through Saint Gregory Palamas and his theology it is emphasized that union with God happens through one's whole being, both the mind and the body; one's essence. Thus, it is good to change our self to its original being. God meant for our gender and physical sex to agree with each other. If this is the way it shall be at the end times, then it is good to fix ourselves now. In fact, it would be beneficial to our soul as we are forming ourselves, and our bodies, in the way that God meant it to worship him. To deny that there is a problem would be to make a lie. Contrary to common belief, Christianity, or at least Orthodox Christianity, is not a body denying religion. It is a body affirming religion. Let us then affirm our bodies.
